biography
My Qualifications for the position of Northwest Regional Director have been acquired over the years. I graduated from Capilano University with an Associate Degree in Retail and Fashion Merchandising. After which I worked for a few years as Production Manager and Designer from local Manufacturers.
Following on my experience, I created my own design company to meet the needs of raising my daughter as a single mother. A change of course led to the world of hospitality for the next several years. During this time I furthered my education at Vancouver Community College. This allowed me to gain knowledge and increase my capabilities to benefit various organizations and the positions I held within them. I held the elected positions of Shop Steward and Shop Chairperson. Over my time in the Hospitality Industry, I also led three negotiating committees, prepared and represented members for Arbitration Hearings. The issues women face in our society inspired me to accept a volunteer position on the Board of the Chrysalis Society, a non profit group. For twelve years we raised funds through charity events, government agencies and individual donations to meet our goal of raising the necessary funding for upgrades to assist three transition houses for women, become licensed Adult Care Facilities. This allowed the Society to partner with BC Housing to receive financial aid for the clients and expand services.I also volunteered my time to mentor women within these homes and assist them in gaining further schooling, counselling and skills training . I was a member of Building Bridges, a human rights organization that worked with Indigenous people within Central America. I have been a member of the Occupation Health and Safety Committee with my previous employer . I am dedicated to creating safety awareness amongst my co-workers and take an active role in accident investigations, creating solutions to avoid accidents and developing training presentations. |
